With Windows 10 Creators Update, Microsoft has introduced a new feature called Dynamic Lock. The Dynamic Lock feature enables you configure Windows 10 to automatically lock the PC when you walk away from it.
What’s is Dynamic Lock feature in Windows 10?
The new lock feature requires you pair a phone with Windows 10 PC via Bluetooth, and locks your PC when it doesn’t find the Bluetooth-enabled phone around the PC for more than 30 seconds.
The Dynamic Lock feature is certainly not an alternative to the classic Windows logo + L keyboard shortcut, which when used, locks the PC immediately. But the Dynamic Lock feature is for users who often forget to lock their PCs when stepping away from their PCs.
As said before, the Dynamic Lock feature is introduced with Creators Update for Windows 10 (15031 or above). So, the feature is not available currently to users who are using Anniversary Update or previous Windows 10 builds. The feature, of course, is not present in earlier Windows 8/8.1 and Windows 7 operating systems.
Use Blue Lock to get Dynamic Lock feature in Windows 7/8.1
If you are still using Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1 for some reason and like the idea behind the new Dynamic Lock feature of Windows 10, you will be glad to know that it’s possible to get Windows 10’s Dynamic Lock feature in Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1 as well.
Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1 users can use a free tool called Blue Lock to get Windows 10’s Dynamic Lock feature in Windows 7 and Windows8/8.1. In fact, the Blue Lock tool was released close to a decade ago. So, in a way, the Dynamic Lock feature is inspired by the old Blue Lock software.
The Blue Lock tool uses a Bluetooth-paired phone to automatically lock your Windows 7/8 PC when you move away from it. You just need to pair a phone with your PC to begin using the Blue Lock program.
Using Blue Lock to automatically lock your PC when you move away from it is fairly easy. Install Blue Lock on your PC, pair your phone to Windows PC via Bluetooth, and then configure the Blue Lock. After launching Blue Lock, you just need to select your phone paired via Bluetooth, and then configure the timeout settings.
The Blue Lock utility is no longer available to download from the developer’s page. So, you have to download it from Softpedia.
