In Windows 7 and earlier versions, we could enable or disable startup programs by opening System Configuration utility. With Windows 8, Microsoft moved the startup manager from System Configuration utility to Task Manager.

Just like Windows 8 and Windows 8.1, Windows 10 also allows you to manage startup items from the startup tab in the Task Manager. You can see all programs and apps that are configured to load with Windows 10 and enable or disable them. More importantly, the startup tab in the Task Manager displays programs and apps that are making a high impact on the startup, meaning you can see and disable startup programs that are delaying the Windows startup. As you likely know, removing programs from Windows startup will speed up your PC’s boot time.

Starting with Windows 10 RS4 builds, you can also manage startup apps from the Settings app. You can see all apps that load with Windows 10 by navigating to Settings app > Apps > Startup.

As you can see in the picture, you can enable or disable classic desktop programs as well as modern apps from here. And just like the Task Manager, you can see the impact of a program or app on the startup.

With this new option, we now have two ways to manage startup programs in Windows 10. You can either use Task Manager or Settings app to view, enable and disable startup programs.
